Joy…

My family spent some time outside tonight. What a beautiful night with the people I love most! Plus, it was Gavin’s first time in the big boy swing!

This is joy!

Simple Joy…

I wish I could describe what this picture does to my heart! Joey was making his baby brother, Gavin, laugh this morning. Such a beautiful sight. I know these guys are going to grow up to be best friends!

Your Biggest Ministry Opportunity

If you haven’t picked up on the subtle hints, I LOVE my church. I love the people. It fires me up to preach to them. I live to see lives changed. The next two weeks, I’ll be speaking at two camps. I’ve had the opportunity to speak to thousands nationally and internationally.

BUT these are not my biggest and best opportunities for ministry.

This week, my lovely wife got bronchitis. I’ve spent several days I could’ve been serving our church, serving my bride.

Here are my life priorities:

  1. God
  2. My wife (yes, just my wife. Not my kids, not my family, but my wife.)
  3. My two sons
  4. My family.
  5. THEN my church.

Those priorities will never change. No matter how big the stage is. No matter how large the opportunity.

The Importance of a Godly Heritage

Four Generations of Burns Men

Where you come from matters. It shapes who you are, what you believe, and the lens through which you see the world.

This weekend, my grandparents mailed me a newspaper clipping, that is 28 years old (that is me rocking the number 24!). It is a picture of four generations of Burns men.

It is a reminder that I come from a great heritage. I had great grandparents who lived long, blessed lives. My grandparents are wonderful examples of what a healthy, loving marriage should look like. If you spent 15 minutes with them, you’d know two things: They love God and they love each other.

My parents have been, and continue to be, such an example of the love of God. They’ve consistently modeled what great parents are. I am blessed.

This causes me to continually strive to be a better husband and dad.

Why? Because it matters. It matters now and for generations to come.

How are you living now? It will shape generations to come.

Once again reminded…

Having a new baby is such a reminder of

God’s love for us. So humbling. So revealing.

God, may I be as dependent on you as Gavin is to me.
